Overview

WD-B1 Fire Retardant PU Foam is a high-performance, single-component formulation engineered specifically to seal joints, penetrations, and irregular voids in fire-rated structures. Its moisture-activated formula is designed to cure rapidly, creating a robust, protective barrier that meets international fire safety compliance for large-scale construction and residential projects.

With a certified B1 fire-resistance rating and the ability to withstand fire in a joint for up to 240 minutes (EN 1366-4), WD-B1 Fire Retardant PU Foam provides exceptional reliability for sealing around wooden doors, windows, and prefab elements. It delivers simultaneous high thermal and acoustic insulation with excellent adhesion to masonry, timber, and uPVC, making it the ideal gap-filling solution for safety-critical sealing without shrinking at any temperature.

Applications

Applications

  • Professional Fire Retardant PU Foam sealing out drafts around windows, doors, and baseboards
  • Filling large gaps and spaces between prefab elements
  • Providing structural space (e.g., below shower trays)
  • Sealing of seams between chimneys, roof panels, and wall panels
  • Thermal, sound, and water insulation in fire-rated structures

Compatible Substrates

  • uPVC, PVC, and most structural plastics
  • Masonry, concrete, and brickwork
  • Timber and wooden door or window frames
  • Metal and aluminum framing
  • Most standard porous and non-porous building materials

Not Recommended For

  • Applications requiring primary structural load-bearing support
  • Continuous immersion in water or underwater applications
  • Direct, prolonged exposure to UV light (cured foam must be painted or covered)
  • Surfaces like polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), Teflon®, and silicone
  • Totally confined spaces (this Fire Retardant PU Foam requires atmospheric moisture to cure rapidly)

How to Use?

Surface Preparation

  • Ensure all bonding surfaces are clean and free from dust, grease, loose particles, or frost to guarantee maximum adhesion.
  • Lightly mist or spray the surfaces with water prior to application, as this moisture-activated foam requires it for optimal expansion and curing.
  • Shake the can vigorously for at least 30 seconds to thoroughly mix the polyurethane formula.
  • Attach the universal plastic adaptor for straw dispensers or screw the can securely onto a professional foam gun.

Application Instructions

  • Hold the can upside down during application to ensure the proper flow and yield of the Fire Retardant PU Foam WD-B1.
  • Fill gaps, joints, and cavities only to about 50% to 70% of their volume, allowing room for the foam to expand and fill the space completely without shrinking.
  • For deep or wide joints, apply the foam in layers, lightly misting with water between each layer to promote consistent curing and ensure the 240-minute fire-resistance rating.
  • Ensure the Fire Retardant PU Foam creates a continuous seal without leaving large voids that could compromise thermal, acoustic, or fire containment properties.

Curing & Limitations

  • Allow the foam to expand and cure. It is typically tack-free in 10 to 15 minutes and can be safely cut, trimmed, or sanded after 1 to 2 hours.
  • Full curing, high-performance gap-filling, and load-bearing capabilities are achieved after 24 hours.
  • Cured foam is not UV resistant. To ensure long-lasting performance, it must be painted, coated, or covered to prevent degradation from direct sunlight.
  • This product requires atmospheric moisture to cure rapidly; avoid use in totally confined spaces where air cannot circulate.
